Soundproof Your Home

Do you like to sleep in a room where every once in a few minutes you can hear the thunderous tolling of buses passing by? Have you ever experienced watching a tv shows like Game of Thrones when you need to turn up the volume to be able to hear what is Daenerys talking about? Have you tried to ignore the abrupt roaring motorbikes sound while concentrating on solving a 12-year-old math question that looks like a Mensa IQ test? Do you like to hear the rhythmic pounding of the nearby road constructions when you are trying to get the baby to sleep? That’s where the soundproof windows come in.

Living in a city-state, noise is inevitable. The benefits of having easy access to everywhere and anything have to be compromised with noise pollution that becomes part and parcel of life. I used to think it was unlikely to have peace and quiet with all the noise going on and on. But with modern technology, one can decide to make a change to the current predicament. So I decided to install soundproof windows in my bedrooms to block out those noises. I had done one of my bedroom’s windows a few months back and was very satisfied with the effect of the soundproof windows. After tried and tested the soundproof effect, I decided to change other rooms’ windows as well.

The company I engaged is called Fortuna Sound Proof Windows. It uses only UPVC material for its window frame instead of the traditional aluminium frame. These rigid plastic windows are durable, resistant to heat and cold (very popular in Europe), more soundproofing characteristic and can be customised for thicker glass or even built-in blinds.

Firstly, the company sent one of their supervisors to take the measurement of my bedrooms’ windows. After that, they gave me a quote. Once we reached an agreement, I proceed to pay the downpayment of 50% to the company’s bank account. And then, would wait for a few weeks for them to fabricate the windows. Finally, the company staff called me to arrange for the date to install the soundproof windows at my place.

With all excitement, we had to clear out the things near the windows in the rooms. And this was a great time to get rid of all those years of rubbish collections my kids had while doing nothing about them. My home will never be a minimalist style or picture perfect flat that you have seen in magazines or Pinterest. But at least once in awhile to purge those long overgrown toys and books into recycling/donation bins really makes me feel like moving into a new home with squeaky clean and tidy bedrooms.

Now let me show you the photos I have taken during the installation. I didn’t take a lot of photos because I would be in their way while they worked. But nevertheless, you can see how it was done at my place.

All the windows were completely taken down. The room was brightly lit by natural light. Nice!

Ta-da! My new soundproof windows!

With great satisfaction, I paid them the last instalment of the installation. I must say these windows are not cheap. But for my family’s sanity sake, they are totally worth it. Besides, the windows will last for many years to come so to me, it is an investment rather than a spending.

Here, I would like to thank the workers for a fast and efficient way to install the windows for me. They finished the job in 3 hours.
