Roaming in Rome – TOP 3 Places To Go in Rome
Milan has a modern and cosmopolitan feel, while Florence is well known for its cultural history. But what about Rome? What is it known for? Pickpockets? An over-commercialised place that tourists should beware of? Little did I know that Rome would leave a charming and memorable impression on both my partner and me, and arguably it became the highlight of our Italy trip. By itself, Rome can never beat the magnificent architectures of Florence and the romantic beauty of Venice; but somehow it brings out the essence of what it means to be Italian, where no other cities could.
In my next few blog posts, I will share with you more on our experience in Rome, but let me start by teasing you with, in my humble opinion, the Three must-visit places in Rome.

The Colosseum
First, the Colosseum. You may have heard of it from history books or movies like Gladiator, and you could have, like me, less than impressed by its crumbling facade. But trust me, when you start to see it from afar, and as you approached it, you will be struck by the grandness of this super-structure. Make sure you tour the inside of the Colosseum, you will be amazed by the achievement of the ancient Romans and wonder how on earth were they able to build such a magnificent amphitheatre without the modern tools that we have today. This building truly sets the benchmark for centuries to come.
Galleria Borghese
This museum and gallery house a wide collection of paintings and sculptures, and among others, the sculptures by the renowned artist Bernini. This is the place where I was awe-struck by the life-like sculptures that bring a sense of motion, grace and that “frozen-in-time” feel when you look at them. You just feel like reaching out and touching each one of them, feeling the wonderful handiwork of artists from centuries ago. The beauty of the art pieces and the serene peacefulness of the gallery, make you feel as if you can hear the whispers of the sculptures coming to life, telling you stories from a time long forgotten…

Vatican City
Okay okay, calm down, historian buffs, don’t “crucify” me. I know Vatican city is a sovereign state by itself, but it is located in Rome and inevitably becomes part of every traveller’s itinerary in Rome. So, I’m going to go out on a limb to name it in this list. From the majestic and opulent St Peter’s Cathedral to the intimate and beautiful Sistine Chapel, Vatican city is truly a place to marvel at the influence of religion on art, and where famous Renaissance artists such as Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci created their finest work. After visiting this place, the rest of the cathedrals pale in comparison (except for Gaudi’s cathedral in Barcelona, which I blogged about it here). Click here to check out the entrance fees to Vatican Museum. I did a guided tour of the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel and it was totally worth it. So my advice is if you have the budget, do this official guided tour, you will not regret it!

Itโs such a wonder that colosseum can withstand the test of time and remains standing after many centuries. I am in awe just like you. Thanks Isabelle!
