Tokyo’s teamLab Borderless – MORI Building Museum

teamLab Borderless at Aomi is one of the famous attractions in Tokyo. Last year when we were in Tokyo Odaiba, there was a long long long queue of people waiting to go into this art museum. The queue snake till nearly 2 blocks and people were braving the cold weather just to enter this Instagram paradise. So this year, we decided to get the entrance tickets online before flying into Tokyo, securing our places to explore this enchanted territory.

The entrance of teamLab Borderless in Odaiba is just next to the Palette Town Giant Sky Wheel

How to get to teamLab Borderless Tokyo

We were staying in Tsukiji area. So, the easiest way to travel from Tsukiji to teamLab Borderless in Aomi is by using the subway. Looking at Hyperdia, we had to go to Shintomicho Station on Yurakucho Line to Toyosu Station and transfer to Yurikamome line to reach Aomi Station. Total travel time is about 20 minutes and fare is 430 Yen. From Aomi Station is just a mere 3 minutes walk to the art museum. We used our IC cards, i.e. Suica or Icoca cards to get to any places in Tokyo. Pretty easy!

Note: Yurikamome Line is a subway line. Therefore you cannot use JR Pass to travel to Aomi Station.

When you see the Giant Sky Wheel, just follow the path towards it and you will get to teamLab Borderless

How to get teamLab Borderless Tokyo’s tickets online

We had personally witnessed how long was the queue to enter the art museum. So this time to avoid any disappointment and terrifying experience, we decided to purchase tickets online before going to Tokyo. Klook’s teamLab Borderless tickets were easy to use. We fixed a date that we were planning to visit the museum and bought the tickets online with Klook.com.

After paying for the tickets, just print out the tickets or download the Klook’s app to show your mobile tickets to enter the museum. I did the old-fashioned way, i.e. printed the tickets out and showed them to the museum ushers. Each tickets has its own unique barcode so please remember to print all of them.

Note: You can only enter into the museum on the date stated on your ticket. However, there is no specified time to enter the museum. Therefore you can enter as early as the museum door opens or as late as 1 hour before the museum door closes.

Our experience

We started the day early with a full breakfast at the nearby Denny’s. After satisfying our tummies, we walked to Shintomicho Station and followed the Hyperdia’s suggested route to Aomi Station. Approximately 20 minutes later we reached Aomi Station. We looked for the nearest sign post and followed the direction to the museum entrance. Easy peasy!

At 9.50am there was already some museum goers queueing inside the museum. Firstly, the ushers had directed us to the lockers’ room where we paid 100 Yen for a medium size locker to put out things such as backpacks, jackets, scarves etc. You can choose not to put them in the lockers but my advice is better store your stuff as you may want to take photos or videos like a model in magazines, looking stunning and fabulous without all the burden!

But remember to bring along your phones and cameras for photo taking. Not to forget, your entrance tickets as well.

After storing you things, we proceeded to queue with the others. This was the time to take out our tickets and let the ushers scanned the barcodes. Everything was orderly and smooth for entering the museum. And then, the show time began!

Just before entering, it showed a short video of what to expect in the museum for example, there is no map of museum because the images change every time when you stay in the same room. Some exhibits may require additional queueing time or additional requirements such as wearing covered shoes in order to get in. But don’t worry, they have a shoe rental booth inside the museum if you decide to visit but not wearing proper footwear.

Once entered, we just followed the arrows or people around us to explore the museum. The following are the photos in some of the rooms that we had been to:-

Once inside the Tokyo teamLab Borderless exhibits, it felt like we were in a fantasyland with lots of colours and lights. Some of the exhibits, we were required to queue to enter but the wait was short and in orderly fashion so not to worry.

It took us about 90 minutes before we decided to leave this fantasyland and going to our next destination. So do plan ahead before going to teamLab Borderless Tokyo to avoid disappointment. You would not regret this, I know we didn’t!
