Petrosains, The Discovery Centre Kuala Lumpur
Petrosains Kuala Lumpur has been given the high rating on TripAdvisor’s reviews and on Google Reviews. It is one of the top attractions in Kuala Lumpur. I have been to KL many times but each time had given this place a miss. So I decided to plan a half a day trip to visit this highly recommended attraction from global wanderers as well as the locals, to see what the fuss is about.
First, the location. Petrosains is located within the Petronas KLCC, in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. So it is very easy to find the place by public transport or taxi. In addition, KLCC has lots of retail shops, restaurants, eateries etc. If visiting science centres is not your thing, you can always opt for alternatives.
Petrosains is on the 4th and 5th floor of KLCC and occupies about 7000 square meters of space. This massive huge centre has exhibits revolved around science and technology of petroleum, yet also embrace all general science. Here you get to play with their equipment and tools hands-on, a fun and interaction approach to learn new things about science or simply just enjoy being a scientist for a day. And it is definitely a fun field trip for the kids.
The entrance to the Petrosains had me hooked. We queued at the entrance and waited for the slow-moving gondola. Once the leaving visitors left the gondola, we were ushered into it. Then slowly, the gondola brought us into a dark tunnel-like with flashing tv explaining about Malaysia and science in general. After that, the gondola made a 180-degree turn and we were brought up a very steep slope, just like sitting on a roller coaster ride but with turtle-like speed pace. My kids had a blast and I definitely impressed by this.
After that, we reached another real entrance of the science centre. So we explored the place and tried our hands on anything that we could play with. The exhibits and equipment were very well-maintained and fairly new too. There was never a dull moment inside this science centre.
A lot of children-friendly tools for the kids to do experiments.
There were also adult-friendly games like these.
We spent about 2 hours inside this centre and after that, we had our lunch at the KLCC mall food court. Overall, this is a very fun and exciting trip. I must say, it is totally worth the time to be in this science centre. 5 stars rating from me.

My kids would have loved the Science Centre! A much better way to spend time on than playing the games.
