Rome Points Of Interest – What to see
My previous post has been about the TOP 3 Places To Visit In Rome. This post is the continuation from where I left off from the previous post. Feel free to revisit the post again. Now, this time I will introduce more places you should go when in Rome.
Roman Forum and Palatine Hills
All the monuments standing gracefully for people to admire. They have withstood the test of time and stay proudly at this site after centuries (as far back as 10th century BC, wow…). This beautiful historical landmark gives you a glimpse of what ancient Rome might have looked like during its period of full glory. Beware that this archaeological site is thronged by a lot of visitors per day so be patient when you are queuing to get into it. Put on a comfortable walking as well because the place is HUGE. It can take hours to simply finish walking the whole site with some uphill hiking. But I must say it is totally worth it for the impressive view.

Piazza Venezia
This square is near to a few famous and must-visit places in Rome that most of the time you will come across this square at least once at some point during your trip. This eye-catching square can be seen from Palatine Hills and Roman Forum because of the monument of King Vittorio Emanuele II. The highlight of this place is probably looking at the chaotic traffics going through the roundabout and the pedestrian trying to navigate this complicated and terrifying crossing. I believe if you dare to do the crossing here, you can succeed in crossing any other dangerous crossing around the world, haha… This is not for the faint-hearted, I must say.

Patheon
This imposing structure was built to serve as a temple to all the Roman Gods. Years later, it was converted into a church and functioned as a resting place for several Italian kings such as King Vittorio Emanuele II, Umberto I and famous artist Raphael. One thing to note is that the geometric patterned marble floor inside the Patheon is the original Ancient Roman floor. So do look out for that if you visit this historical building. Other impressive points about Pantheon are the rows of columns supporting the triangular pediment, the inscription on the entrance (Marcus Agrippa son of Lucius, having been consul three times made it), arches holding the high dome with an oculus to let in the natural light and don’t forget the tombs of the kings and Raphael.

Spanish Steps and Piazza di Spagna
The Spanish Steps served as a link between Piazza di Spagna at the base and Trinità dei Monti church at the top. There was a time where many artists and painters gathered here to get inspirations for their artworks. And gradually it attracted beautiful women to visit this area for a chance of being the muses for the artists. Thereafter, the riches and people from all walks of lives thronged this place. Now it serves as a meeting place for everyone. Look at the photos below, you can see how crowded it was on the night I was there.

Piazza Navona
Another big square with beautiful fountains and lined with restaurants and shops. This centrally located square has lots of activities such as street artists performing for delighted pedestrians, hawkers and tourists taking photos or simply resting their tired feet. The main attraction is the masterpiece of the prolific sculptor Bernini, i.e. Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi. This is a great place to spend your afternoon people-watching and having a cup of cappuccino.

Well as you said, there is so much to roam about to see in Rome. A few days wouldn’t cut it. We spent just 4 days and regretted not spending more!

Agreed. With so many things to see in Rome, the 3 days there was a bit rush for me. Hopefully one day, I would be able to go back again! Thanks Lorelle.
